Forgotten Favorites in Youth Literature
Are you looking for Children and Young Adult books that are worth reading? You’ve come to the right place! I have a master list of over 700 titles to share. My purpose with this blog is to share book titles that most parents today have either forgotten about or never heard of in the first place. I have a degree in English Literature, I’m a mother of five, grandmother of eight and homeschooled my children for 15 years. Our family read hundreds of books together over the past 30+ years. I hope you’ll join me as we remember the best that Youth Literature has to offer.

If you have a Middle Grade reader who loves dragons, here is a fantastic series! The Inheritance Cycle (Eragon, Eldest, Bresingr and Inheritance) by Christopher Paolini follows a young Eragon and his courageous dragon, Saphira as they work to overthrow the evil king of Alagaesia. You’ll be crazy impressed that these four novels were written by a homeschooled teen living in Montana. These were some of my son’s favorite books growing up! Well-written, exciting, complex and satisfying! I read a couple of them out loud to him and I loved them too. Skip the movie made of volume one. Embarrassing. Middle Grade Reading Level, Fantasy, 500 - 800 pages, Published 2003 - 2011. #kidsbooksworthreading #childrensbooksworthreading #fantasyforkids #dragons #readaloudrevival #readaloud #homeschool #homeschoolreading #carolesmiddlegradebooksThe entire Peter Rabbit Rabbit Collection by Beatrix Potter is available on Audible (through Amazon) today for only 69 CENTS. It runs for nearly 3 hours and contains 18 stories. It’s also available in the Kindle format for 99 cents. The Tailor Of Glouster is probably my favorite! I love it when children meet these beloved, classic characters! #kidsbooksworthreading #childrensbooks #childrensbooksworthreading #beatrixpotter #peterrabbit #tailorofgloucester #readaloudAnother beautiful New Year’s Day at #roseparade2019The Cinnamon Bear radio show recorded and first broadcast between Thanksgiving & Christmas in 1937. Now available at Amazon on CD or Amazon audiobook for immediate download. A holiday classic following twins, Judy and Jimmy, whose Christmas Tree Star has been stolen by the Crazy Quilt Dragon! A thrilling adventure, reminiscent of The Wizard of Oz, begins! Recorded in 26 episodes to last the entire holiday season. One of my dear friends bought us the cassettes back in the early ‘90s and it quickly became a beloved holiday nighttime tradition! I just purchased copies for my grandchildren to listen to this year. Merry Christmas! #kidsbookclub #kidsholidaybooks #kidsholidayaudiobooks #christmasstoriesforkids #thecinnamonbear #oldradioshowsCategories
