The Rag Coat by Lauren Mills (1991)

This beautiful picture book tells the story of a little Appalachian girl who needs a coat in order to attend school.  Her family is too poor to purchase one, so Mother sews a colorful coat from quilt scraps.  The little girl is so happy until her fellow students tease her about the “rag coat.”  Can she find a way to help these other children see its beauty?

If you’re looking for a book that deals with bullying, this is a sweet one.
