Mouse House by Rumer Godden (1952)

“Once upon a time there was a little mouse house.  It was like a doll’s house, but not for dolls, for mice.”

mouse.jpgWhen Mary receives a sweet little mouse house as a gift, she is delighted!  But then she peeks inside and discovers that the tiny house contains only mice dolls; she is terribly disappointed.  She wants REAL mice to live in the beautiful little home.

So, Mary puts the house away and forgets all about it, until one day she discovers that Bonnie, a real mouse, has moved in and made the tiny house her home!

Let the fun begin!

This story has delighted children for decades.  Rumer Godden was a very prolific children’s and adult novelist from the 1930’s until the 1990’s.  She wrote nearly 40 novels for kids.  Mouse House is one of her best known today.

And yes, Rumer Willis (daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis) is named after Rumer Godden.  Maybe it’s time to understand why!
